TULSA, Oklahoma – The college basketball season is fast approaching, and the Tulsa Golden Hurricane players and coaches talked about what fans can expect from them in the coming year.
The Hurricane's players all focused on the disappointment of falling just short of winning a Conference-USA Championship last season. Tulsa finished the regular season tied for second in the conference and advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament.
The players said they are using their near rise to the top of the conference as motivation this season. The team only lost one significant senior, Justin Hurtt, and returns a strong core of starters and team leaders.
Head coach Doug Wojcik noted that the team has three senior leaders returning in Steven Idlet, Joe Richard and D.J. Magley. Wojcik said he will count on their leadership in the locker room and hopes that will translate to consistent play.
The Hurricane has had a few scattered practices since Sept. 15, when teams are allowed to practice for two hours per week. But things are about to kick into full gear, and Tulsa will begin its regular season on Nov. 11 against Arkansas-Little Rock.
