TULSA, Oklahoma -- The University of North Carolina has called an emergency meeting of its Board of Regents for 8 a.m. CST Friday to discuss a "personnel matter," presumably to discuss vacant athletic director's position.
InsideCarolina.com reported Wednesday that Tulsa athletic director Bubba Cunningham was closed to being named as the Tar Heels' new AD. Cunningham missed his monthly "Brunch With Bubba" media luncheon Thursday morning, adding fuel to the rumors.
Former North Carolina athletic director Dick Baddour announced in July that he would be stepping down, a day after firing head coach Butch Davis amid NCAA sanctions. Baddour had served the Tar Heels for 14 years before resigning.
Cunningham has been with the University of Tulsa as the athletic director since 2005, following three years as the AD at Ball State. He helped guide the Golden Hurricane through its first years in the Conference USA and during his tenure has had 129 student-athletes named to the conference commissioner's Honor Roll.
