BROKEN ARROW, Oklahoma -- Police have identified the driver of a pickup who was killed when the truck went airborne and crashed into a tree early Friday morning.
Broken Arrow Police identify the man as Michael Eugene Headin, 32, of Brighton, Tennessee.
Police say he was driving south on Elm at a high rate of speed shortly before 1 a.m. when he came to the intersection with Jasper.
Elm ends at Jasper, but police say the 2005 Chevrolet extended cab pickup truck continued on, going airborne and slamming into a tree about 60 feet from the road. Police say the pickup truck struck the tree 11 feet off the ground.
Headin was pronounced dead at the scene. The pickup truck was destroyed in the crash.
According to police, the preliminary investigation indicates alcohol and speed were the primary factors in the crash.
