TULSA, Oklahoma -- Another long-time Tulsa business is closing. Top Hat Magic and Costumes is closing.
The store was for more than three decades the home of rental costumes, make-up and magic.
Steve Lancaster has been performing and creating magic tricks for others since the 70s, and his Top Hat Magic and Costumes store was the place to get what you needed.
"The piece of pie is just been cut up, and no one is really making it," Lancaster said.
He says despite the economy, Halloween is still a big money holiday. But the business has been so divided and subdivided it's hard for anyone's business to be successful.
"The dot-coms, the internet, they're not doing well either," he said.
Closing will give him more time to devote to his magic. He loves close up magic or sleight of hand.
I told him I thought I could make some of these costumes disappear, that's what he's hoping. They're all for sale, nearly 3,000 of them.
He says he'll continue to operate his online business selling magic tricks and illusions to magicians.
Top Hat will be open seven days a week through Halloween, and everything is for sale until it closes for good by the end of the year.
