TULSA, Oklahoma -- The Tulsa State fair begins this Thursday. It's ten days jam packed with all kinds of food, shows, games and rides.
This year, fair goers can now download an iPhone app to get the most out of their visit.
The countdown to the opening of the Tulsa State fair is underway. Vendors are busy getting their booths ready and fair officials are unveiling their last design to help you find just what you need on the midway.
Amanda Blair is surfing through the Tulsa state fair's new iPhone app. It's an electronic version of the official brochure with a few extras thrown in for fun.
"We can vote for the goat," Blair said.
Besides trying to find a name for the mascot you can buy tickets for any of the shows or just for general admission using the app. It also has maps for the park and ride locations and a map to help you navigate the busy fairgrounds.
"We have the overall grounds map. We have over 800 different timed events so that is crucial whenever you are trying to get from location to location to know where you're going," Blair said.
Right now the app is only available for the iPhone, but Blair says they are developing one for Android and other platforms next year.
The only tool the app is missing for now is a way to find your fair food. Blair says the technology for that part of the app isn't fully developed and they didn't want to include a feature that wasn't 100 percent ready.
"You know whenever you're working with technology there's definitely steps you have to take, so our goal this year was to get it launched," she said. "Every year we are going to continue on with it and then improve and find all sorts of different features to help our patrons out."
The app is available in the app store on your iPhone. For those without an iPhone you can pick up a hardcopy brochure at any gate at the fairgrounds or at any QuikTrip or Walgreen's.
