Tulsa, Oklahoma – Last year's OSU-Tulsa game was not pretty for the TU defense.
Unfortunately for Tulsa, that Oklahoma State offense seems to be the same as last year.
Fortunately for Tulsa, their defense is not the same as last year.
With plenty of changes in the coaching staff for the Golden Hurricane, players on defense are lining up in some new formations.
Tulsa is using mainly a 4-3 rather than last year's 3-3-5, putting more pressure up front on the quarterback and more front line power to halt rushing games in their tracks.
OSU offensive coordinator Todd Monken said film from last year's game against the Golden Hurricane probably won't look much like what the Cowboys will see on Saturday.
"It's a completely different philosophy how they go about trying to defend you," he said.
The Golden Hurricane hasn't exactly had good test subjects so far to find out the results of the new defense.
They faced No. 1 OU in week one, followed by a completely overmatched Tulane team in the second week.
Tulsa also has two top 10 teams remaining in non-conference in OSU and Boise State.
But TU defensive end Cory Dorris said the new defense gives them a chance to win any game they go into.
"We have a different defense than we've had the last couple of years and I think you all can tell that we can stand up with the big boys."
