Wewoka Man Wrecks ATV Riding On River Bed

A 44-year-old Wewoka man wrecked as he rode an ATV at high speed on the Canadian River bed, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

PITTSBURGH COUNTY, Oklahoma -- A Wewoka man was injured as he rode his ATV on the river bed of the South Canadian River in Pittsburgh County, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Tommy Garner was riding a 2005 Kawasaki ATV at a high speed on the river bed a few miles outside Indianola just after 4 p.m. Saturday. He hit a rough spot on the river bed and lost control of the vehicle.

Garner was thrown 20 feet from the ATV, troopers say.

The 44-year-old man was taken to a Tulsa hospital by medical helicopter with head, arm, leg and internal injuries. He's listed in stable condition, according to the trooper's report.
