OKMULGEE COUNTY, Oklahoma -- A Coweta man was killed Saturday evening when he lost control of his ATV on a gravel road in Okmulgee County. Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers say the accident took place at 7:45 p.m. on North 300 Road just north of Ferguson.
Derek Russell, 23, was taken by medical helicopter to St. Francis in Tulsa where he was pronounced dead.
Troopers say Russell was southbound on the gravel road when he lost control of his 1995 Yamaha ATV. The ATV rolled a half time and struck an embankment. Russell was ejected.
The OHP collision report notes that there was a smell of alcohol on the driver. The cause of the wreck is listed as unsafe speeds for the conditions.
