UNDATED -- Veteran lawman Mickey Spears has been named director and investigator for the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians Lighthorse police force.
Spears leaves a position at the Keetoowah Cherokee Casino where he worked for six years. He has served as the chief of security and surveillance director for the Gaming Commission. His career in law enforcement began in 1985 when he became an officer working for the Cherokee County Sheriff's Department.
"Mickey brings a wealth of experience and relationships to any position," said United Keetoowah Band Chief George Wickliffe.
"He has a lot of experience working with tribal police forces, as well as doing investigations and has worked in conjunction with the Bureau of Indian Affairs many times."
Spears and Lighthorse Captain Chris Thompson will work a 14 county area.
