BROKEN ARROW, Oklahoma – In front of almost as many scouts as fans, Archie Bradley spun a 16-strikeout gem while helping Broken Arrow to a 6-1 win over Bishop Kelley Wednesday.
In the first inning, Bradley accomplished a rare pitching feat: he struck out four batters in an inning. To lead off the game, the first two Comet batters went down swinging; that’s when Cameron O’Brien stepped to the plate. O’Brien also struck out swinging, but the ball got away from Tiger catcher Dylan Delso, and O’Brien beat the ensuing throw to first base. Bradley struck out the following batter to finish the four-strikeout inning. Bradley completed the game, striking out 16, allowing four hits and walking none.
The scoring started in the bottom of the first, when Tiger Tyler McKinzie led off with a solo home run. A few batters later, Archie Bradley stepped to the plate and jacked a two-run homer to left. The three-run inning was all the scoring the Tigers needed, even though they would add three more by the end of the game. The lone Comet run came in the sixth inning on a line drive RBI single to left by Donnie Walton.
Broken Arrow’s next game will be Thursday at home against Verdigris at 7:00 pm. Bishop Kelley will play Pryor on Thursday at ONEOK Field at 5:30 pm. That game is part of the Tulsa Drillers’ High School Baseball Showcase series.
