OWASSO, Oklahoma – In their first game as the top-ranked team in the country, the Owasso Rams took down the Sapulpa Chieftains 13-2 Tuesday at Stigall Field.
Baseball America’s newest national high school rankings have the Rams at number one, and they played like it from the start. Wearing camouflage uniforms for Military Appreciation night, the Rams put the game away early, cranking out nine runs in the bottom of the second. The big inning included an RBI double by Dylan Bundy and an RBI double by Phillip Wilson that nearly went over the right field wall. The Chieftains scored a run each in the third and sixth innings.
For the Rams, Conner Wichmann went five innings, gave up three hits and struck out four to earn the win. Sapulpa’s Eric Exum gave up six earned runs on ten hits for the loss. Owasso will play their next game on Thursday at home against Berryhill. That game was scheduled to be played on Monday before being rained out.
Note: Steven Looney threw out tonight’s first pitch in honor of his brother, Spc. Andrew Looney, who was killed in an IED explosion in Afghanistan last summer.
