No. 1 Cache Advances to Final over Weatherford

The Lady Bulldogs will square off with No. 2 Fort Gibson for the Class 4A Gold Ball.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- A strong second half lifted the No. 1 Cache Lady Bulldogs to a 57-50 win over Weatherford Friday in the Class 4A Semifinals.

The Lady Eagles trailed 28-20 late in the second quarter, but closed the half on a 12-4 run – including four from senior Kiley Brennfoerder and five from Pam Whedbee – to head into halftime tied 32-32.

Cache opened the second half by scoring the first six points, taking a 38-32 lead just two minutes into the half. Weatherford answered with a 6-2 run, sparked by back-to-back jumpers from senior Kimmi Swatzky, to cut the deficit back to two points.

However, five quick points from Cache to close the quarter and take a 46-40 lead heading into the final eight minutes. The Lady Bulldogs continued their run with five points to start the quarter and take an 11 point lead with just 5:46 left to play.

Weatherford responded with an 8-2 run, four back-to-back from Swatzky, to cut the lead to 53-48, but the Lady Bulldogs hit four free throws to close out the game.

Swatzky led all scorers with 18 and freshman guard Chandler Roof notched 10 points in the loss.

Cache senior Cassadie Holybee led the Lady Bulldogs with 14 points, 12 from behind the arc, Jennifer Rosado contributed 13 and Katelyn Martine scored 11, nine from behind the arc.

The Lady Bulldogs will now face off with the undefeated Fort Gibson Lady Tigers at 2 p.m. Saturday in the State Championship matchup.
