TULSA, Oklahoma – The Bishop Kelley girls survived a fever push by Rogers in the final seconds to win their 5A regional, 44-40. Until the final few moments, the Lady Comets’ win was never in doubt.

Kelley led by six midway through the third quarter, but turned up the heat on the offensive end with the one-two punch of Katie Smith and Chelsea McKenzie down the stretch. The duo ran the pick and roll to perfection. McKenzie scored on a spinning layup to push the Lady Comets’ lead to 11.

Kelley led by eight heading into the final quarter but Rogers didn’t quit. Jamie Peel led a late charge with 13 points. Ashley Jones hit a three to cut the lead to seven inside one minute to play. Rogers stole the inbounds pass and scored at the buzzer, but the lead was too much to overcome.

McKenzie led the Lady Comets with 16 points. Katie Smith added 10. Maddie O’Meilia scored 7.

Kelley was all smiles as the team gathered around for the team picture with their new 5A regional trophy. They advance to the area tournament on a hot-streak. They are just one win away from the state tournament. They will play the winner of the Collinsville – East Central regional final.

Rogers will play the loser of that matchup. Both games will be played March 3rd at a site to be determined.
