Eagles Defend Nest against Knights on Senior Night
Both the Morris boys and girls knocked off rival Henryetta on the last night of the regular season.

MORRIS, Oklahoma -- It has been a year of highs and lows for Morris basketball, but the Eagle seniors of 2011 went out the best way possible. The Eagles and Lady Eagles dropped rival Henryetta 44-37 and 62-41, respectively.
The first quarter of the boys’ game started slowly. Morris held an early 8-2 lead and took an 11-5 lead at the end of the first eight minutes.
Henryetta came back to make the halftime score Eagles 18-14, Morris controlled the early part of the third quarter. Henryetta responded and the Knights led 28-25 with three quarters down.
Morris regained a 38-33 advantage and the Eagles closed out a 44-37 victory by cashing in on free throws.
Tyler Wahnee led the scoring with a game-high 17 points, Dylan Yahola managed 12 points while Jacob Wares and Hayden Sharp added five each.
The girls’ contest that preceded it featured the No. 6 Lady Knights and the No. 9 Lady Eagles facing off for the third time this season.
Morris began the game on a 10-0 run and Henryetta answered with a 8-0 spurt, however Morris led 12-11 at the end of the first quarter.
The score was locked at 14-14 but the Lady Eagles took advantage of Henryetta’s mistakes, outscoring their visitors 18-4 to take a lead 32-18 lead at half.
The lead shrunk at the end of the third quarter to 42-30, but it grew again to 51-37 and the Lady Eagles won easily 62-41.
Haley Robinson scored a game-high 19 points, Lauren Cruz added nine, Sarah Crenshaw and Sandra Morgan eight apiece and Megan Milroy and Bailey King each contributed five points.
After Friday’s district games against Stroud, the 10-11 Eagles and 17-4 Lady Eagles host either Kellyville or Okemah in their first Regional game Thursday. The girls will play at either 1:30 p.m. or 6:30 p.m., while the boys play at either 3 p.m. or 8 p.m.
