PONCA CITY, Oklahoma—Ponca City’s Joel Zehr has resigned from his position as district athletic director.
Zehn stated that his reasons for resigning are personal.
Former Ponca City athletic director Rusty Benson will return to the district to finish out the school year as the district athletic director.
The Ponca City News reported last week that Zehr was on leave from the school. The paper also reported that assistant athletic director Karl Lynes said he could not elaborate on the situation and Ponca City Supt. of Schools Dr. David Pennington declined comment but did say the situation involves a personnel matter and is confidential.
Ponca City High School has recently been under fire after two wrestlers were accused, and later charged with felony rape.
Despite the charges the district continued conducting its own internal investigation regarding the incident that allegedly took place at the high school.
Benson served the district as Athletic Director for twelve years before retiring in 2008.
