Eagles Defeat Arch-Rival Knights, 48-47
The Eagles barely beat the Knights in the heated rivalry between the two teams.

Morris-Henryetta has always been a great rivalry, with enough back story accumulated over the years to fill several books. In any sport where they meet, both sides are going to give all they have to win.
During Friday night’s latest installment, the 3A No. 5 Lady Eagles lost 57-55 to the 3A No. 8 Lady Knights, while the boys rallied to top Henryetta 48-47.
The Eagles jumped on early Henryetta mistakes, but after giving up the first 8 points, the Knights came back to lead 17-15 at the end of the first quarter. Henryetta played the better game in the second, they led at halftime 27-21.
Morris fell behind 33-21 in the third quarter, but the margin to 37-36 with eight minutes to play. Henryetta led 47-44 with 1:01 left, but the Eagles scored, and then, down by 1, had the ball again with 13 seconds left.
Jacob Wares used the glass to give Hayden Sharp the ball, and the 6’5” senior made the game-winning layup, Henryetta’s last-ditch three clanged off the back of the rim, giving Morris the 48-47 win. After the Okmulgee County Tournament this week, the Morris squads (boys 6-7, girls 8-3) travel to Eufaula on Jan. 25, girls tip off at 6:30 p.m., followed by the boys at 8 p.m.
