Lance Manning Hired as Wolves' Head Coach

EDMOND, Oklahoma -- Former Norman North head coach Lance Manning has been hired as the new head coach at Edmond Santa Fe High School.

The school board approved the hiring Monday with a unanimous vote, but Manning didn’t officially know he had the job until the board approved it.

“It’s policy that they don’t tell their applicants that they’ve got the job until the board approves it,” Manning said. “I knew there was a chance, but you’re not told you have the job until it’s approved.”

Manning replaces former Wolves Bruce Gowan as the Wolves’ head coach. Gowan was a coach with Santa Fe for 16 years and served as their head coach for the last two. He resigned after a 1-9 finish in 2010, dropping his all-time record to 4-16.

An attitude change may be in order to get Edmond Santa Fe back to its winning ways.

“I told them that we’re going to have a ‘Santa Fe. Swagger.’ We’re going to play hard every snap, we’re going to be physical, take pride in preparation and out work opponents,” Manning said. “I’m ready to go to work. [The players] are ready to go to work. It’s going to be a great marriage and we’re excited.”

In his six seasons coaching Norman North, Manning went 33-33, including two playoff appearances in 2007 and 2008.
