TULSA, Oklahoma – The 12th annual Cherokee Nation Entertainment Oklahoma’s Best tournament kicked off on Thursday at the Reynolds Center and the best first round matchup lived up to its billing.
Booker T. Washington and Vinita met in the first round. Both teams qualified for state last year and both are currently ranked in the top 5 in the state in their respective class.
As expected, this game went back and forth. Vinita led after 1 quarter, but Booker T. Washington came back and led by 12 after 3.
Vinita chipped away at that lead in the 4th. But down the stretch, they struggled at the line. Vinita missed 18 free throws in the 2nd half alone. And that allowed Booker T. Washington to win the battle of the Lady Hornets 59-51.
Booker T. Washington will be back in action Friday night at 8:30 when they play in the tournament semifinals. Vinita drops into the consolation semifinals and their next game is Friday afternoon at 3:30.
