Lady Knights win Season Opener, Boys Fall Short on Road

HENRYETTA, Oklahoma -- The 2010-11 high school basketball season tipped off Tuesday night in Preston, with a pair of 8 Star Conference games. The Lady Knights of Henryetta won easily, 77-41, while the Knights couldn’t quite match the Pirates’ size, losing 77-60.
Rebounds came in plenty during the first quarter of the boys game, Preston had an 11-9 advantage on the glass, and a 19-10 lead, after the first eight minutes of play. Every Henryetta player on the court scored points in the second quarter, but Preston still led at halftime 35-26. The gap extended to 11 after the third quarter, Preston was ahead 44-33.
Junior forward Joe Moudy had 12 of his team’s 17 points in the final frame, but it wasn’t quite enough, as the Pirates took the opener by a 77-60 score. Moudy led the scoring with 23 points, sophomore guard Damon Mouss had nine, sophomore forward Blake Johnson seven, freshman guard Chet Caywood six, senior guard Guy Kiehl five, senior forward Greg Thomas and junior Jordan Lewis both had four, sophomore forward Grant Ward two.
The closest the girls’ game ever was came after the first basket, the Lady Knights sped out to a 10-0 lead, and they had a 21-11 advantage going into the second quarter. The ball was distributed pretty evenly, and Henryetta’s lead increased to 42-23 at halftime. They coasted through the second half, by third quarter’s end the lead was 57-32, and the Lady Knights finished the fourth with a 77-41 win.
Senior Heather Konsure led on offense with 15 points, sophomore Megan Tabor had 14, junior Danielle Bear 11, the sophomore duo of Lauren Flanary and Miranda Harjo each had nine, freshman Alissa Taylor eight, juniors Ashton Peters and Bobbie McCullar each had four points.
Up next on the schedule for the Knights (0-1) and Lady Knights (1-0) will be the Demons and Lady Demons of Beggs, that will be Tuesday night in the Beggs Special Events Center, girls tip at 6:30 p.m., followed by the guys at 8 p.m.
