DEL CITY, Oklahoma -- The Wetumka Chieftains topped the Kiefer Trojans 32-14 to move on to the Class B state championship game, where they’ll face the winner of the Dewar/Cherokee Saturday matchup.
The No. 6 Chieftains made a late-game rally to pull ahead of the No. 4 Trojans. The two teams were tied at 14 in the fourth quarter, but a series of sloppy offensive mistakes by Kiefer offered Wetumka a chance to build a margin for the win.
Chieftain running back Derrick Moore scored twice for his team, the first touchdown coming on a 93 yard run following a recovered fumble. He later recorded an 85-yard run to bring the score to 32-14. Moore finished the game with 251 yards on 16 carries. His teammate, quarterback Chase Williams, ran for 83 yards and two touchdowns and threw one touchdown pass.
The Trojans couldn’t answer back, falling behind and falling out of the state title race. Kiefer quarterback Ryne Gregor threw for just over 115 yards for one touchdown.
The Chieftains will have to wait until the completion of Saturday’s game between Dewar and Cherokee to determine who they’ll face in the state championship game.
