TULSA, Oklahoma – The Jenks Trojans clinched a district championship Friday with a 23-7 victory over the Broken Arrow Tigers.

Both defenses dominated to start the game. Jenks (9-0, 6-0) scored the game’s first points thanks to a fumble recovery by Trent Martin returned for a 16-yard touchdown. The Trojans led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter, and the two teams combined to gain only 92 total yards of offense.

Broken Arrow (7-2, 5-1) tied the game in the second quarter thanks to a 99-yard drive that lasted only two plays. Richie Freuchting broke an 80-yard run from his own 1-yard line, and Archie Bradley followed with a 19-yard touchdown pass to Cameron Wrenn to tie the game 7-7.

The Trojans retook the lead late in the first half on a 39-yard field goal by Kevin King and went into halftime up 10-7. They broke the game open in the third quarter thanks to a 59-yard touchdown by Alex Ross, and added another late score to finish things off.

Friday’s game was a significant one for the sake of district playoff seeding, and Jenks will play another next week against Norman (8-1, 5-1). If Norman wins that game, it will force a three-way tie between Jenks, Broken Arrow and Norman.

In that situation, the tie would be broken by district points. But because of Jenks’ margins of victory this season, the Trojans cannot be overtaken for first place even if they lose next week. The 23 points Jenks put up Friday gives it 492 points on the season, a new school record.

While Jenks will play another high-profile game next week, Broken Arrow will have a much easier task against Shawnee (3-6, 1-5).
