SPERRY, Oklahoma – Cascia Hall wrapped up the 3A-District 5 title Friday night with a 17-6 win over Sperry. The Commandos gave up less than ten points for the sixth time this season.
With one week remaining in the regular season, Cascia Hall leads the Pirates by a game in the standings. By virtue of the tie-breaker rules, the Commandos locked up the district title in Week 9 at Sperry.
Both teams entered the game unbeaten but Cascia quickly took control. The Commandos forced a Sperry fumble and had an early opportunity down near the goal line to score, but couldn’t punch in a first quarter touchdown. Luke Moellers dropped an easy, wide-open touchdown that Cascia Hall settled for a field goal.
Just before the half, the Commandos got a 1-yard touchdown run from Abrm McQuarters. The Commandos led 10-0 at the break and put Sperry away with defense in the second half.
Their six point effort against Cascia was the worst of the season for Sperry.
The Pirates entered the game averaging over 36 points per game. It’s the fewest point total for the Pirates since getting shut out against Lincoln Christian last season, 33-0.
The district champions will finish out the regular season at home against Dewey next Friday. Sperry will travel to Blackwell.
