MUSKOGEE, Oklahoma – The Muskogee Roughers jumped out to a huge lead and coasted from there in a 42-2 blowout of Putnam City West Thursday.
The Roughers (5-3, 3-2) scored all 42 of their points in the first half, while shutting out the Patriots (1-7, 1-4). Officials used a running clock in the second half, which took less than 30 minutes to complete. P.C. West managed to record a safety to avoid a shutout, but never got anything going on offense.
The win guaranteed a playoff spot for Muskogee, which became the fourth and final team in District 6A-3 to secure a playoff berth. The four teams with guaranteed spots will play each other in the final two weeks of the year, which will determine seeding.
The Roughers will face Norman (7-1, 4-1) – which is coming off its first loss of the season – next week, while P.C. West will play Sapulpa (2-6, 0-5).
