DUNCAN, Oklahoma -- The Duncan Demons' current record of 4-3 could easily change to 3-4 or even 2-5 overnight, as the team awaits the ruling by the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association.

One of the team’s key players and No. 4 on Oklahoma Sports’s Top 30 List, Dominique Petties, was ruled ineligible by the OSSAA, after the state’s governing body over high school sports denied Duncan’s request for a hardship waiver.

“Basically, he’s ineligible because this is his fifth year,” said Duncan Athletic Director Burl White. “It had something to do with the transcript three or four years ago.”

The Demons, at that point, had already played their defensive back in at least three games.

White said the school is now awaiting a letter by the OSSAA, which would determine how many games the Demons would have to forfeit.

Petties has had offers from a handful of Division I schools, including Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Missouri, Tulsa and Arizona. While he has sat out in the Demons’ past three games, he did see playing time in the beginning of the season.

“He hasn’t played in the last three games,” White said. “He did play significant roles in the first three games.”

See how the Demons fared in their first three games of the season.

It’s those three initial matchups that the Demons could have to give up, pending the OSSAA’s ruling. Oklahoma Sports will have updates on this story as early as Monday.
