Chickasha Football Player Dies After Collapsing in Practice

A 16-year-old football player from Chickasha died Friday, after spending two days in critical condition from a heat-related injury sustained during a Tuesday practice.

CHICKASHA, Oklahoma -- Officials at Children's Hospital report that Kody Turner, the Chickasha football player, died Friday morning.

The 16-year-old varsity player collapsed Tuesday afternoon following football practice which included sprints. The junior was rushed to a hospital in Chickasha and was later taken by a medical helicopter to OU's Children's Hospital in Oklahoma City.

Children's Hospital officials said Turner died at about 4 a.m. The cause of death is not yet available.

Chickasha School Superintendent Jim Glaze said extra counselors as well as area youth pastors will be available for students.

The September 17 game between Chickasha and Noble was canceled. The funeral for Kody Turner will be held September 21 at 2 p.m. at the Grand Assembly of God in Chickasha.
