MORRIS, Oklahoma -- The biggest game in Okmulgee County took place Friday night, as the Henryetta Knights traveled to their arch-rivals, the Morris Eagles.

Morris won 6-0 before a large, vocal crowd at Eagle Stadium on Homecoming.

Henryetta got the ball to start the game, but couldn’t go anywhere on the ground, so sophomore receiver Caul Warlow kicked the first of his seven punts, it went for 50 yards. Morris tried to move downfield, but they were stopped by the Knight defense, Eagle quarterback Hayden Sharp’s first of eight punts sailed 53 yards.

The back and forth continued throughout the 1st quarter, it seemed like Henryetta was gaining some momentum until senior quarterback Cody McKinney threw a ball just a little high, it was swatted into the hands of a Eagle defensive back. So the first quarter ended at 0-0, neither side had any points yet.

Morris was faced with a 4th down, but Sharp completed a pass to Corey Lewis, they moved downfield to the Knights’ 11 before fumbling with 8:11 to go in the half. Senior wide receiver Guy Kiehl ran back a punt 47 yards, but a block in the back penalty took the ball back to Henryetta’s 6 yard line. Warlow scored on a touchdown run, but that also was nullified, leaving the scoreboard still blank at halftime.

Henryetta got the ball close to the end zone, but it slipped out, giving Morris possession with 7:53 to go in the third quarter. Morris’ offense started getting on track, after the Knights allowed Sharp just two completions in 11 first half attempts.

They moved down to the 15 of Henryetta, but back to back penalties dropped them all the way to the 40, where they punted on 4th and 35. Back and forth it went, and the 3rd quarter ended with the score still Home 0, Visitors 0. With 10:55 left in the game, and the ball deep in Eagle territory, the Knights tried a flea flicker, but Warlow’s pass was intercepted in the end zone.

Time kept on slipping into what looked like a future of overtime to settle the winner, but Sharp winged a 54 yard touchdown pass to Lewis with 4:02 until the clock stopped.

The Knights blocked Lewis’ extra point attempt, and recovered the onside kick, a 4th down conversion kept Henryetta alive, but McKinney fired an interception with 2:07 to go in the game, and Sharp ran 55 yards for a game-ending 1st down, as Morris won it by a 6-0 score.

Warlow averaged 47.1 yards per punt, in 12 tries McKinney completed four passes for 63 yards, junior wide receiver Sebastian Delocal caught three passes for 50 yards, and Kiehl raced his way to 79 return yards against his old team.

“Tough loss, we couldn’t convert scoring chances, both defenses played outstanding, we just gave up too many turnovers,” Coach Kenny Speer said after the game.

Morris(1-1) plays in Beggs Friday. The Demons(1-1) lost 33-16 to Tahlequah Sequoyah last week, and Henryetta(1-1) has Homecoming as the Knights host Kellyville(1-1) at Cameron Stadium Friday night at 7:30 p.m. The Ponies won 20-9 over Haskell last Friday.
