NORMAN, Oklahoma -- The Norman North defense is switching from the 3-4 to the 4-3 defensive scheme this year, and no one is happier than defensive end Dan Davis.
“We are going back to the 4-3 and I will probably get a lot of sacks and tackles this year,” Davis said.
As a sophomore, Davis reeled in 12 quarterback sacks in the 4-3 scheme, while his sack total dropped to six last year in the 3-4.
Despite the drop in the number of sacks, Stanford jumped on Davis. The Cardinal offered him a scholarship and Davis accepted last December. Davis said Stanford feels like the perfect fit.
“The coaches there are a lot different than what you normally run into,” Davis said.
Davis attended Stanford’s camp this summer for the second year in a row. Jim Harbaugh’s style as the Stanford head coach is a main reason why Davis is anxious to suit up for the Cardinal next season.
“Going to their camp and seeing Coach Harbaugh run around in drills, you see him come up and shake your hand and be real active. That was really important to me,” Davis added.
Davis will close out his high school career playing defensive end for the Timberwolves, but plans on playing linebacker for Stanford.
