OKLAHOMA CITY – First-year coach Brad Beller was dealt an impressive hand in his inaugural season as Washington head coach.
The Warriors went 7-5 last season, but finished the year strong with a trip to the playoffs and a loss in the second round.
Beller said his transition becoming head coach this summer was almost seamless.
“The first day I was hired, we met and they started lifting practically that night,” he said. “We ended up getting seven really good weeks of summer running and lifting in.”
Senior quarterback Dakota Treat will provide leadership and has a host of key players on offense coming back, including running back Zeke Zimmer and offensive lineman Dalton Mize.
Most publications have the Warriors picked to win District 2A-3, but Beller said he wouldn’t have it any other way.
“Any time you play at Washington there is already pressure added to win the district regardless of how many starters you have returning,” he said. “It’s nice this year to come back and have the nucleus that we do.”
