OKLAHOMA CITY -- The biggest story for Norman North is the new face in the backfield, running back Emilio Gatewood.
At Millwood a season ago, Gatewood rushed for nearly 1,900 yards and 25 touchdowns. Add his skills to a backfield that already contains the talented Raymond Dewby and the Timberwolves appreciate the new dimension it brings to the field.
“[Having the new talent in the backfield] is a dream come true,” said guard Caleb Kline. “It takes a lot of pressure off of our shoulders to have two or three guys that could run all day if they have to.”
Coming together as a unit can be difficult, especially with two backs who are used to being feature, but the “two-headed monster” gelled with ease.
“When [Gatewood] first got here we became good friends,” said Dewby. “And it showed a lot at the scrimmage at Thursday.”
With the expectations high for Timberwolves’ ground game and college teams eyes focused on the backfield, there is still something more important than putting up big numbers in 2010.
“I’m not into my yards and stuff like that.If the [yards] come they come,” said Gatewood. “[The most important thing is] just to win.”
