DEL CITY, Oklahoma -- Del City’s Jamelle Naff began his high school career on the defensive line, but it was not until he moved to offense as a junior that he blossomed into one of Oklahoma’s best players.
Once Naff made the switch to offensive tackle, he made a concerted commitment to bulk up in the weight room. He admitted he did not take his regimen seriously enough during his first two years, but he now stands at a massive 6-foot-4 and 313 pounds.
The University of Missouri became the first school to offer Naff a scholarship in May, and eight other schools have since followed suit.
"It was just a fast process,” Naff said. “They came one after another. I'll just take my time and see where I go.”
Naff said he hopes he will eventually receiver an offer from Oklahoma, but that has not yet happened. In the meantime, Missouri and TCU are his top preferences.
Naff’s teammate, Chazten Gonzalez, has already committed to the Horned Frogs. Naff said the two of them have spoken almost every day about the possibility of playing together again next season, and he visited TCU last week.
While Naff has bulked up, he has not lost his outstanding footwork. That skill has made him a dominant run blocker.
"He has great feet; he's played alot of basketball in his life, I think he has alot of upside," said Del City head coach Nick Warehime. “Once he plays one more year of high school, then redshirts, I think he’s good enough to play in the Big 12.”
