TULSA, Oklahoma -- Booker T. Washington avenged a regular season sweep from East Central by beating the Cardinals 51-43 in the 5A state semifinals on Friday.
Tharone Chilton scored a game-high 16 for the Hornets and Juwan Parker added 11. Damion Hooks led the Cardinals with 13.
Hooks took over for East Central in the first quarter, scoring 11 points and propelling the Cardinals to a 15-9 lead. He would only add two more to that total before the end of the contest, but the Cardinals still led by five at halftime.
After East Central extended that lead to 34-27 in the third, the Hornets finished the quarter strong with a 9-2 run capped off by a Dante Barnett bucket right before the buzzer.
After Chilton gave the Hornets a 37-36 lead with a free throw early in the fourth quarter, Booker T. Washington extended that lead to 41-37 with a Dominique Simms three-pointer and a Tyler Lockett free throw. The Cardinals had opportunities to come back, but could not get shots to fall in the final minutes.
Booker T. Washington now moves on to face Memorial in the 5A state title game on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Chargers won all three meetings between the two teams this season.
