SAPULPA, Oklahoma – The Norman North Lady Timberwolves advanced to the 6A state finals after downing Owasso 46-41 Saturday afternoon. The Lady Timberwolves had to hold on a fierce Lady Rams rally to secure the win.
Trailing by six points with thirty seconds to play, Cayli St. Gemme drove to the basket and pulled Owasso closer with a sweeping layup. The Lady Rams called a timeout to talk about defense.
The Lady Timberwolves knew they had to hit their free throws. Tori Thomas knocked down a pair after Owasso committed an intentional foul. The Lady Rams could not hit any of their desperation shots and Norman North ran out the clock.
Mariah Turner led the Lady Timberwolves with 13 points. Thomas scored 11.
The Lady Timberwolves struggled in the first half and trailed by three heading into halftime. They got themselves back in the game on defense in the third quarter, holding Owasso to just five points.
Owasso got a game-high 24 point effort from Morgan Toben. St. Gemme scored 10 points for the Lady Rams.
The loss eliminates Owasso this season. Norman North advances to the state quarterfinals. That round begins March 11th.
