It has been a wild week for Texas Tech recruits and Tre’Vante Porter is no exception. The Red Raiders closed their coaching speculation by hiring Tommy Tuberville to replace Mike Leach, but that may have unleashed a whole new can of worms for Porter’s commitment to Tech.
“I’m opening back up recruiting,” Porter said. “I think I’m going to decommit.”
However, all hope is not lost for the Red Raiders. Porter still plans to make his official visit to Tech Jan. 15 and meet with Tuberville before deciding on a new course of action.
“I’m going to have to see what he plans on doing with the defense and offense and see if he’s going to change the coaching staff that much,” Porter said. “Then I’ll go from there.”
The Carl Albert star is rated the seventh best prospect in the state of Oklahoma by Rivals.com. The talented two-way player said he was pulling for defensive coordinator Ruffin McNeil to get the job and was surprised at Tuberville’s hiring.
The wide receiver and defensive back recently picked up an offer from the Oklahoma Sooners. Porter has been in contact with Oklahoma State, Kansas, Kansas State and Arizona among others.
