TULSA, Oklahoma -- After several blowouts, the first round of the 45th annual Tournament of Champions ended with a thriller as Tahlequah Sequoyah edged Muskogee, 65-63.
Travis Sanders hit the game-winner for the Indians with seven seconds remaining. Terran Pettit led the way for the Sequoyah with 17 points. Muskogee’s Oren Faulk had a big night in the loss, scoring a game-high 23.
The Indians will face the Booker T. Washington Hornets, who took down Pawnee, 57-39. Tharone Chilton and Juwan Parker each had 16 for Booker T. Washington. Ralston Moore scored a game-high 17 for the Black Bears in the loss.
In the first game of the tournament, Memorial knocked off Garber in a low scoring affair, 47-33. Memorial’s Adrien Anderson led all scorers with 13. Hayden Vencl and Bryce Lamer each pitched in seven for the Wolverines.
The second contest provided a wider margin of victory as Putnam City cruised past Roff, 72-50. Dominique Raney was the leading scorer for Putnam City with 25, while Dylan Lemley scored 15 for the Tigers. Putnam City advances to the winners’ bracket where they will face Memorial.
