TONKAWA, Oklahoma -- A battle for perfection will take place this Saturday night at Boone-Pickens Stadium. The Tonkawa Buccaneers (14-0) will face Stroud (14-0) for the Class A Gold Ball.
The Buccaneers are no strangers to title talk in football. Tonkawa has won five state titles, with their last coming in 2005. The Bucs are in the title game for the fourth time in seven years.
Expectations were high back in August. For the most part, the injury bug has stayed away from the Buccaneers and that is a big reason why they are still playing in December.
“I would say health is the main thing; had some lucky bounces the last few weeks. We are here to see it through,” says coach Mike Kirtley.
The Bucs are averaging 37 points a game on offense this year, while the defense is holding opponents to 7.7 points per game on defense.Tonkawa just missed a title appearance last season, losing to Okeene in the semifinals.
