OKLAHOMA – With high school football in the rear view mirror, many schools are warming up to their basketball teams with some early-season hoops action. This week kicks off a flurry of high school tournaments for boys and girls teams around the state.
Thursday tips off one of this winter’s best high school basketball tournaments. Eight teams will play at Bishop Kelley High School from December 10-12 in the Bishop Kelley Classic Basketball Tournament.
The Comets host a field of top talent, including Altus, Bishop McGuinness, Tulsa Central and the defending 3A state champion Cascia Hall Commandos. The Commandos and Braves jumpstart the action when their game tips at 4 p.m. Hale and Stilwell play at 5:30, followed by Skiatook and Bishop McGuinness at 7, and Bishop Kelley and Altus at 8:30.
The Commandos won the tournament last season, but could have a tough time repeating with such a talented collection of teams on one floor. The tournament concludes with the championship game Saturday night at 8:30 p.m.
