VERDIGRIS, Oklahoma – Millwood’s domination on defense continued on Friday night.
The Falcons shut out Verdigris 28-0, advancing to the 2A semifinals where they will play Kingfisher next week. The Yellowjackets defeated Sperry 35-14 in their quarterfinal match-up.
It’s the third time Millwood has shut out an opponent this season and they have allowed a touchdown or less seven times during 2009.
The Falcons held on to a 14-0 lead shortly before halftime when Verdigris botched a punt that put the Falcons deep in Cardinals territory.
Millwood capitalized, scoring on a touchdown pass from Kevonte Richardson to Brandon Swindall as time expired.
Verdigris controlled the offensive tempo in the third quarter but was held scoreless.
Midway through the fourth quarter Millwood tailback Emilio Gatewood scored a 20 yard touchdown to seal the win for the Falcons.
