TULSA, Oklahoma – 2009 district action couldn't wait until Friday. The Memorial Chargers fell to the Sand Springs Sandites, 41-27, Thursday night at La Fortune Stadium.
Sand Springs was without their star quarterback, Johnny Deaton, for the third straight game after the OSU commit went down in Week 1 with a collarbone injury. Sophomore backup Darrack Harger has done a nice job filling in for Deaton. The Sandites came into Thursday night's game winners of two straight.
Senior running back Terrance Dixon made sure Harger didn't have to shoulder the whole load against Memorial. Dixon scored twice in the first half on runs of 24 and 3 yards to give the Sandites a 14-13 advantage at halftime.
Memorial fought hard in the second half but their defense couldn't slow down the Sand Springs attack. Harger and Dixon led the Sandites to 27 second half points to get out of La Fortune stadium with a win.
With the win, Sand Springs improved to 3-1 this season while Memorial dropped to 2-2. Next up for the Chargers, a road trip to take on the Claremore Zebras October 2nd. Sand Springs will host Bartlesville the same night.
