MOORE, Oklahoma – The Moore Lions have historically struggled against the rival Westmoore Jaguars, and that trend continued Friday with a 19-6 loss.
The Lions essentially gave Westmoore its first 10 points of the game. First, after being pinned near the goal line on a pooch punt, they fumbled the ball at their own one-yard line. It took Westmoore two plays to turn that into a touchdown.
Moore then botched a snap on a punt and gave Westmoore the ball in Lion territory. The Jaguars converted that into a field goal to take a 10-0 lead, and added another field goal to go into halftime with a 13-0 lead.
Moore then gave up a touchdown on a double pass that put them behind 19-0. The Lions were able to score in the fourth quarter on a long running play, but it was too little, too late.
The schedule does not get any easier for the Lions. They will take on Midwest City – the returning 6A-District 2 champion – on Sept. 11.
