WAURIKA, Oklahoma – The Waurika Eagles struggled to start last season, but then caught fire and won their last four games of the year. With several starters returning, they will be looking to improve their 5-5 record and earn a playoff berth.
The Eagles’ biggest strength will be their defense, where senior linebackers Levi Henderson and Gil Griffin will lead their 4-4 scheme. Henderson and Griffin each had more than 100 tackles last year for a defense that did not allow more than 18 points in Waurika’s five wins.
Henderson and Griffin will also see significant time on the offensive side of the ball, Henderson at fullback and Griffin at tailback. Henderson rushed for 10 touchdowns as a fullback last season.
The Eagles will begin their season Sept. 4 on the road against Snyder, which defeated Waurika 22-6 last season.
