TULSA, Oklahoma -- A Tulsa energy company is literally turning trash to treasure; now they could be saving lives too.
Covanta takes Tulsa's trash and turns it into clean energy.
Thursday the company announced a deal with the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics to destroy unwanted prescription drugs too. More Oklahomans die from prescription drugs than illegal drugs.
So, the OBN says this deal is a win-win. It'll keep the old prescriptions out of the wrong hands provide clean energy.
"This is the first, to our knowledge, the first in the nation that's done something like this, and we're happy, we're happy to be on the cutting edge," Darrell Weaver, Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics.
