TULSA, Oklahoma -- The Tulsa Drillers avoided losing back-to-back games Saturday thanks to a strong outing from pitcher Dan Houston in his first appearance for the Drillers.
After being called up from the Modesto Nuts, Houston (1-0) pitched six shutout innings for Tulsa (35-39), giving up just five runs and striking out five batters. Shelby Miller (3-1) was credited with his first loss of the season for Springfield (33-41), giving up two earned runs on three hits, while striking out eight in six innings of service.
The only runs of the game came in the top of the second thanks to a Scott Beerer two-run home run over the center field wall, his 12th of the season.
The Drillers will try to make it back-to-back wins and inch back toward the .500 mark at 6:07 p.m. Sunday in the third game of the four-game series.
