STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) -- A Stillwater man and his ex-wife have been accused of attempting to fake the man's death so he could escape arrest warrants and start life over as a woman.
The Stillwater NewsPress reports that Payne County prosecutors charged William Scot Davis and his ex-wife, Heather Davis, with conspiring to commit a crime by making a false police report, a misdemeanor.
Court documents allege they tried to fake William Davis' death so he could get a sex change operation and Heather Davis could regain custody of their children.
Heather Davis reported William Davis missing May 29, telling officers she took him to a lake to go fishing that morning and couldn't find him when she returned.
William Davis' attorney, listed as Sarah Kennedy in court records, couldn't be reached for comment.
