TULSA, Oklahoma -- Tulsa city and airport officials held a dedication ceremony at Tulsa International Airport's central terminal Friday morning to honor the city's only Medal of Honor recipient.
U.S. Marine Private First Class Albert Schwab was a flame thrower operator with the Marines stationed in the south Pacific.
The military says Schwab was killed during an operation on the Japanese island of Okinawa in 1945.
In 1949, he was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions during that battle.
According to the citation written by President Harry Truman, Schwab used his flame thrower to single-handedly take out two Japanese machine gun emplacements which had caused heavy casualties in his unit.
Friday morning, a statue of Schwab was unveiled at TIA. The center terminal is named in his honor.
