Saturday afternoon, OSU got it right. They showed us allthat it’s not always about the X’s and O’s, or the final score. At halftime ofthe Bedlam basketball game, the school dedicated a scholarship to a young fanthat passed away last season.
Caleb Spady died of a brain tumor last year. He was an avidbaseball fan and loved the Cowboys. His short time on earth was filled withboth the joy of a game, and the pain of his medical condition. From what I’veread, he didn’t let his cancer get him down. He vowed to beat it, and playcollege baseball for his favorite team.
That dream never was realized but, in a way, it still cametrue. He will be on the field in spirit every year until the end of time. He wont physically be the one wearing spikes and a glove, but oneplayer each season will earn a spot on the team because of his scholarship.
Orange Power, indeed.
Hats off to the Cowboys; The team Caleb cheered so loudly for.
May 26th, 2011
