A Glimpse at the Future

Ive always said when you look good you feel good.  I bet those U.S. Ryder Cuppers are feeling like hungover Texas fans today.  Those Ryder Cup uniforms look like something from the 75-percent off bargain rack at the sidewalk sale at the Gap. I know because I used to shop there. Seriously, if we want the guys to bring the cup back home, dont open them up to ridicule by the entire rest of the world.  Its a good thing most Americans were either sleeping or watching football while those unis were on display.

Walking into the State Fair of Texas Saturday I saw a guy with his afro brushed up into a mohawk that stretched straight up about a foot and a half off of his scalp like a giant fin.  It was painted orange with a white Texas Longhorns log in the middle of it.  He was wearing a Longhorns flag as a cape.  I wonder how he felt about that choice at about 8:30 Saturday night. 

I dont know how good OU is right now, but I know the Sooners are getting better.  Young players tend to do that as they get more experience and confidence.  The Sooners have played 12 true freshmen and 6 redshirt freshmen this season.  And some of them are among the best players on the team.  Cornerback Aaron Colvin, wide receiver Kenny Stills, fullback Trey Millard and safety Tony Jefferson each made at least one big play against Texas and theres only more to come.  Theyve been able to learn without losing.  Im not saying the Sooners could get to a national title game or even win one if it was played next week.  But theyll be a lot better by the time they would have to play in one.  Thats the way it is with freshmen.

OSU hosting Nebraska sets up as the next "Game of the Year" in the Big 12, but we have to wait three weeks to see it and there are significant land mines awaiting each.  The Cowboys should win at 2-2 Louisiana even though its a horrible spot and a Friday night game.  OSU went and lost down at Troy in 2007 in a similar situation, but this Ragin Cajuns team is not as good as that Troy club.  But then the Cowboys must go to Lubbock, a place where they havent won since 1944.  The Huskers play an awkward Thursday night game at Kansas State this week before hosting a Texas team that will coming off of a bye week but with two straight losses and backed into a corner.  Keep your fingers crossed.
