There’s a reason coaches and players keep bringing up Justin Gilbert’s name when you ask which newcomers are having an impact during OSU’s preseason practice. The latest example came during Saturday’s second major scrimmage. To simply say Gilbert took a punt back 80 yards for a touchdown doesn’t do the play justice. Gilbert fielded the punt, ducked as a defender flipped over him, then made one move and sped past everyone. He MAY be the fastest player on the Cowboy roster, and he’s certainly earning the praise coming his way so far. Gilbert might just have a chance to do what former Cowboy Perrish Cox did: return the opening kickoff in his first collegiate game for a TD. That’s not a prediction. Not unless it comes true of course.
Gilbert will also be in the rotation in the OSU secondary, but his biggest impact, at least as it appears right now, will be as yet another dangerous Cowboy return man.
