Here are some thoughts following OSU Fan Appreciation and Media Day Sunday:
1. Brandon Weeden looks and acts the part of a leader and starting quarterback in the Big 12. And he has the full confidence of his teammates and coaches.
2. Kendall Hunter might roll up 25-hundred yards of offense if he stays healthy.
3. I hope Orie Lemon is and can stay healthy. The OSU defense is depending heavily upon him. Last year Donald Booker did a terrific job filling in and the Cowboys had plenty of other leaders (like Andre Sexton and Patrick Lavine) who could make up the difference. This year Lemon is the leader.
4. The secondary has to come together. Markelle Martin and Johnny Thomas are two solid safeties, but beyond that there are questions in the secondary. Daytawion Lowe’s injury and Victor Johnson’s issues have made that worse.
5. The Cowboys relish the underdog role. At least, to a man, they say they do. A top 10 ranking and Sports Illustrated cover were nice last season, but those are things of the past. The players we talked to Sunday said the low expectations that many media members and fans have for them has made them hungry to prove doubters wrong.

May 26th, 2011
