NORMAN, Okla. – The Oklahoma baseball team continued its recent hot streak with a 6-2 victory over New Mexico Friday.
The Sooners (36-13) started the scoring in the bottom of the first inning thanks to two unearned runs, one of which came when Eric Ross stole home. They stretched the lead to 3-0 on an RBI by Max White in the bottom of the fourth.
OU added another run in the seventh on an RBI double by Garrett Buechele and scored another two in the eighth on RBIs by White and Cale Ellis.
New Mexico (16-33) managed to avoid a shutout by finally getting on the board in the ninth inning. Quay Grant and Ben Woodchick drove in runs in back-to-back at-bats, but the Lobos never truly threatened.
Both bullpens got the night off, as both starters finished with complete games. Michael Rocha finished with a win after holding New Mexico to just two runs on seven, while Rudy Jaramillo allowed six runs – two of them unearned – on 11 hits and only one walk.
The Sooners now have won six consecutive games and have scored a total of 40 runs in their last four games. Friday marked the beginning of a four-game series for the two teams, which will continue with a doubleheader at 3 p.m. Saturday.
