NORMAN, Okla. – The No. 15 Oklahoma softball team run-ruled its second straight opponent Saturday in a 13-0 rout of Iowa State.
The Sooners’ scoring came in only two innings, but they batted around both times. The first big inning came in the second, when a total of 12 batters came to the plate and OU scored eight runs. The biggest blows came from Chana’e Jones and Brittany Williams, both of whom delivered two-run home runs.
The Sooners carried that 8-0 lead into the fourth, when they recorded their second big inning thanks to costly ISU mistakes. The Cyclones committed a total of three errors in the inning, which kept the inning alive and allowed OU to score five unearned runs.
Meanwhile, the Oklahoma pitching staff turned into another strong performance. Keilani Ricketts, Michelle Gascoigne and Kirsten Allen combined to hold Iowa State to only one hit on the day while striking out seven and walking nobody.
The Sooners’ 13-run explosion came one game after their put up nine runs against North Texas in another game that lasted only five innings. They will try to continue their offensive fireworks when they end their series against North Texas at noon Sunday.
